Dean
a
white male, 19 years old, studying General Studies. Easy comfortable laugh,
confident, watches soap operas, thinks 'voodoo' music strange & spooky.
Open of his affair with Chip, yet doesn't flaunt, considerate of Chip's
feelings. Flirts with Eric, pretends sex with Marcie.
Wears
a small loop earring in right ear. A little eyeliner & blusher, looks in a
small hand mirror fixing curly blond hair day and night. Wears silk shirts
unbuttoned and loose at the top. In the day wears blue baggy, pleated pants and
black ones at night with adorning hot pink scarf. Absently plays with self.
Chip
a
white male, 20 years old, studying Business. Has a 'proper' attitude, hides his
affair with Dean. Wants Nancy and sides with her on everything. Very 'prep',
mirror watcher. Flippant to lesser students. Diligent in dress, guilt ridden of
sex and its variations. Does British vocals occasionally. Doesn't believe in
'black magic', down on drugs.

Adrian

white male, 21 years old, studying Business Management. Slick, sophisticated manner,
open of affair with Marcie. Level headed, honest, hard study habits, doesn't
like gays, short temper. Not sure of dummy.
Slicked
jet-black hair, electric blue eyes, wears traditional gray, pinstriped suit,
instead of a tie wears suspenders. At night resigns to a green cardigan sweater
and white slacks with tasseled shoes. Takes long, quick strides with an air of
confidence, left-handed. When confused rubs nose, sports the 3-day shadow look.
Marcie
a
white female, 21 years, studying Business Management. Sharp, always brushing
hair. Open of affair with Adrian. A little flirty. More physical than
intellectual. "It's who you know that's important". Aggressive,
doesn't sit still for long. Not frightened by dummy.
Wears
long, shinny honey golden brown hair. Hazel eyes, oval & captivating.
Conservatively dressed in black pumps, straight checkered white and blue skirt,
matching blue blouse. At night wears red blouse, red pumps and black skirt.
When sitting crosses legs. Always taping long finger- nails on table counter.
Eats slowly, left-handed.
Nancy

white female, 18 years, studying Nursing. Half hides her affair with Blair.
Flirts openly with Chip. Easily offended, fragile, delicate demeanor and
speech, high ideals, a romantic, gossipy. Thinks dummy is a big joke.

a quick toothy grin. During day wears nurse uniform, at night wears jeans and a
large peach sweater. Bites nails whenever trying to be nosy.
Blaire

white female, 23 years, studying Piano. Having a hidden affair with Nancy.
Mostly quiet and self centered and directed. Doesn't like males at all. No
opinion of dummy, is intellectually curious.

large woman, likes to eat fast. Hides body behind loose fitting clothes. Black
hair cutting a bob, dark brown eyes. Sits ill at ease or seems edgy around men.
Brittanie

white female, 22 years, studying Acting. Flippant, giddy, loud, fast moving,
flirts with everyone always ready for sex. Dedicated to the theater, tight drug
connections, slang conversation. Thinks sex is the world motivator. Thinks
dummy a prank, wants to take action to stop it.
Reddish
blond hair, green eyes with long luscious lashes. Daytime wears blue-jeans
skirt with the zipper in the front. A tight fitting white shirt, no bra. At
night fish net panty hose, black leather miniskirt, white shirt, large
earrings. When neglected, paces the floor or pouts, makes every movement slow

Eric

white male, 23 years, is a Graduate Math Assistant. Likes Vincint &
Jesabell and sticks up for them. Shy of girls and sex talk, absent-minded,
unaware of house affairs, stays to self and in room most of the time. Punctual
and clean, fastidious. Unaware of dummy.
Muscular,
slightly clumsy, freckled faced, spiked gelled hair, brown eyes. Unconsciously
drops bottom jaw for periods of time. Walks with hunched shoulders. Wears blue
sweater and navy blue corduroy pants. Then wears a blue sweatshirt and blue
jeans.
Vincint
a
white male, 26 years, a Philosophy Graduate Assistant. Having an intellectual
bonding affair with Jesabell. Unkempt look, hungry appearance. Linked action
and conversation with Jesabell, almost as one being. Misses meals, no time
pattern habits. Explains spiritual presence of dummy.
Beard,
mustache, short dark brown hair and eyes, acne scars. Brown pants worn out at
the knees, sags at the butt where underwear sticks out. Unbuttoned stripped
shirt, reveals hairy chest. Round 'John Lennon' glasses. When thinking or
perplexed wrinkles forehead and tugs at right ear with right hand.
Jesabell
a
white female, 25 years, a Philosophy Graduate Assistant. Having an intellectual
bonding affair with Vincint. Unkempt look, hungry appearance. Linked action and
conversation with Vincint. Misses meals, no time pattern habits. Helps explain
spiritual presence in house.
Scraggly
teased brown hair, thick eyebrows, tie-dyed shirt with long black skirt, wears
a cross necklace. Bites lip. Black boots, thick glasses. Slender, mid-sized.
Pearl
a
white female, 49 years, works as housekeeper 11am - 7pm. Diligent, matronly,
efficient, slowing with age, doesn't like dummy, shaky nerves.
Silver
grayish hair, pointy speckle glasses in which she constantly has to peak over. Wears
flowered shirt, old brown pants, a rosary usually hangs from skirt pocket.
Georgia
a
white female, 41 years, works as cook, 11am - 7pm. Stays to kitchen and her
chores. Single minded, quiet. Afraid of dummy. Jokes with kids, slapstick.
Dyed
auburn hair. Wears faded bell-bottoms, tennis shoes, apron over a white shirt
and a peace sign and studs on her collar.
Crystal
round,
glass texture, clear except center rose tint, nine-inch diameter. Seems to
absorb emotional energies and releases said. Origin unknown.
TUNNEL OF LOVE
ACT I Scene 1
OPENING SET
Attic
The
room is near dark, Vincint & Jesabell are sitting in the lotus position
facing each other. A large crystal ball is sitting on a low table between them.
Both of their hands encircle the crystal. Their palms are just above its
surface.
There
is a faint reddish glow from within the crystal, the room's only light. As the
globe brightens they gradually pull their hands from its intensity. With its
dimming, they return their hands close to its surface.
2nd level
H
room
The
overhead light is on. Eric is setting up a 16mm movie projector using the far
wall as a screen. He is slowly, carefully hand winding the film from a large
pile on the floor back onto a reel on the back projector arm.
Lounge
The
couch, chair and end table sit vacant. The black/white 20 inch tv is off. The
3-way table lamp is on the low setting.
Bathroom
The
wattage overhead bare bulb reveals an empty room.

Is
empty and dark.

Dean
& Chip are in bed; a low wattage covered wall light is on. They are lying
quiet under the covers.

Georgia is at the work counter dicing carrots.
ACTION
The
Dining room clock strikes 12 times, during which the set is gradually
illuminated one level at a time beginning with the Attic. The players are froze
in place till the last gong; whereupon:

at the open mouth of Nancy

"Oh
go on with you. I see how friendly they are. They're buddies, best of friends,
chums. Like the guys on the baseball team, clubbies," looking to an aghast
Brittanie.
Brittanie
"Clubbies?!
Ha ha ha. You mean they play with their bats and glove their balls. The old
in-and-out, on and off the field, he he he he ha ha he ha ha ha he he he he ho
ho ho ho ho ho ho." She stops and holds her belly and rocks forward and
back.
The
piano tempo speeds to match Brittanie's scenarios and raises in pitch with her
laughter. Blaire has been watching Brittanie while playing.
Nancy
"Stop
it, stop it! You sound so nasty. They're not like that. I know they're not.
They're nice boys."
Brittanie
"Oh
how can you be so square. Maybe you got something going on? Which one, huh, come
on which one you been playing ball with?"
Nancy
"Well,
I'm not. They're nice boys. They are. I'm sure its you. You've got the dirty
mind. Sex, sex, sex. That's all you think about. You've really got some hang
ups."
Brittanie
"You
young naive kitten. Of course sex is the deal. Everything else is time
in-between. A rest stop. If you aign't riding the roller coaster then you're
waitin' in line."

got that right. And those boys were playing catch. Right now they are resting,

"That's
what I'm suppose to tell St. Peter at the pearly gates. Tell God thanks, I sure
had fun, fucked 500 times one year, what a time, what a life, what a place. Say
can we do this again. That's what you're going to say to St. Peter on Judgement
Day?"
Brittanie
"Don't
be so square, St. Peter, he won't care how many, he just cares about the
quality, the sincerity. He'll say 'Brittanie', when you blast off is it
retro-rockets or a smoke bomb?'" She grabs her crotch and spins counter
clockwise, "Wheeeeeeeeeee," louder and louder. Finally collapsing on
the couch as the piano crescendos to silence.

places
her book on the vanity, rolls free some tissue paper and wipes her butt. Stands,
pulling her underwear up under her dress. Flushes the toilet, washes her hands,
then dries her hands on her apron.
Kitchen
Georgia
is
dicing raw carrots on a cutting board and putting the pieces in a large pot of
water. Her chopping is in time to the beat of the piano music.

quietly in bed under the covers.

rewinding, by hand, the film from the floor. Pausing only to untwist the kinks.

unmoving in the soft red glow of the crystal. As the globe brightens they

behind Adrian, puts her jacket on the back of a chair and sits down upon it.

out of bed nude, walks over to the door, flips on the light, begins to dress
from the clothes on the chair.

spoon and begins to stir.

the icebox, then takes a gallon of milk to the table. Walks to the cabinet and gets
two glasses, turns back to the table, sits the glasses down and unscrews the
milk top.
Marcie
watches
Adrian quietly.

room, on his way to the bathroom.

begins
putting on his shirt while sitting in bed.

knocks
the near full real off the projector arm to the floor, it rolls and unwinds. He
shakes his head and drops his arms and stares at the reel.

Vincint & Jesabell
hands
are aback from the glowing crystal.

arrives
at the table to take the gallon jug from Adrian's hands just as he pours,
spilling on the table.
Adrian
with
the gallon taken from his hands, the milk splashes on the table and he jumps backwards,
wiping his clothes clean.
Marcie
pushes
back from the table to dodge the spill and her chair tilts all the way over
toward the floor; arms flailing, her feet catch the table legs. She balances on
the hind legs.
Adrian
darts
around the table to help Marcie, "My dear. Are you alright?" Looks at
her, caresses her hair with his left hand.
Georgia
"Break
it up, you kids break it up, this aign't no tunnel of love."
Adrian
"We
just wanted some milk to drink. You could have broken her neck." Looks
back at Marcie, caresses her hair with his left hand.
Georgia
"It's
ten minutes to lunch. You get your drink then. Of course I might break her
neck, you're in my kitchen. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha."
Marcie
"Oh
Adrian, just forget her. She's just a..." leaning close she whispers in
his ear.
Adrian
laughs
loud, "Haw, haw, haw harh, that's just what she is."
Georgia
frowns
at them, "You kids get out of here this second or I'll break your hinny's
too. Now go on, get with ya!" kicking her foot at them.

Chip
emerges
from hallway into the stairway. Walks up the stairs to the bathroom. Enters.
Runs bath water. Begins staring into the wall mirror at his eyes.
B
room
Adrian
gets
out of bed, only a shirt on. Walks over to closet chair, sits down, picks socks
off the floor and tries to match a pair from 5 different colored & shaped
socks.
2nd level
H
room
Eric
walks
over to the reel on the floor, picks it up. Carefully walks back to the
projector, places the reel on its arm notch, and begins to slowly wind the film
back onto the reel.
Attic
Vincint & Jesabell
remain
motionless with palms around the glowing crystal.

Brittanie
is
lying on the couch, one leg on the floor, rubbing her crotch and moaning and
groaning, "Myeeeeee, ohhhhhhh, ohhhhhhh, oyeeeeeee."
Nancy
gets
up from the chair, slowly walks toward the couch, "Brittanie are you
alright?"
Brittanie
"Oh,
oh it hurts me baby, deep deep deep down inside, oh oh oh oh!" louder and
louder.
Nancy
peers
over the edge of the couch at her, "You're disgusting!" She spins
away in disgust and walks briskly to the piano and sits beside Blaire.

putting the silverware on a serving tray.

down by Blaire.

you do the base cleft. I'll get the treble."

with the sheet music while Nancy plays a few notes softly.

trot from the table giggling, bound around the corner to the bathroom hand in
hand.

knocks
on the door, pauses, then opens the door slowly peeking around the door, then
enters fully.
Adrian

right behind her, as she begins to close the door, he catches it.
Marcie

looks around the door, stomps her foot once on the floor, with a scowl, "
A lady must have her privacy "
Adrian
"Aw
come on, we share everything else."
Marcie, giggles
"You
young pert thing you." Then slaps him fairly on the left cheek.
Adrian
"Owe,
that smarts."
Marcie
pushes
the door closed giggling. Washes her hands, dries them on the towel and brushes
her hair while looking in the mirror.
Adrian
turns round
the corner and trots briskly up both flights of stairs two at a time. Reaches
the bathroom door, tries the knob and finds it locked. "Hurry up! Who's in
there? Come on! I got to go! Open this door!"
Kitchen
Georgia
puts
the gallon on the pushcart, turns and goes to the icebox and extracts a serving
tray of sandwiches. Takes them to the table, goes back to icebox, extracts a
tray of cubed apples & pears. Takes it to the pushcart. Then goes to the
work table cabinets, takes down two tins of potato chips and takes them to the
pushcart.
Looks
the table over, mutters silently pointing at each item. Snaps her fingers,
turns and walks back to the icebox, opens it and extracts a clear pitcher of
water. Then takes that to the pushcart. She walks to the work bench cabinets,
opens one and pulls a clipboard from off its nail inside the door. Turns back
to the pushcart and points at each item and checks the list on the clipboard.
Finished she returns the clipboard to the nail.
Dining
room
Pearl
picks
up the tray of silverware and proceeds to array the dining table places.
Blaire
begins
to play the treble notes with her right hand, placing her left hand on Nancy's
thigh.
Nancy
begins
to play the bass keys with her left hand and places her right hand on Blaire's
left hand.
TV
room
Brittanie
rolls
over on her stomach, one arm dangles to the floor.
1st level
B
room
Dean
holds
two socks out, nods approval and puts both on. Reaches for a pair of jeans on
the floor and holds them out, nods approval and pulls them on while sitting.
With the waist around his knees, he bends forward to push his feet through. He
then grabs the waist and jumps up high, pulling the pants up, in mid-air. He
buttons and zips up.

continues
to carefully rewind the film onto the reel.
Bathroom
Chip
continues
to stare into the mirror.
Attic
the
crystal is getting brighter.
at 12:10

knocks
on the door fast and hard.
Chip

looking in the mirror, "Go away. I'm taking a bath."
Adrian

you're not, you're standing by the mirror. Come on Chip open up."

in the tub. Go away."

lying, I can always tell when you're lying. Let me in or I'll wet my
pants."

down stairs."

over to a lounge chair and plops down, crossing his legs.

picks
up a tray of glasses from the dinette and places two per person. She then takes
out a stack of napkins, counts them, places back the extra, then puts one per
person round the table. When done she stands by the dinette watching Georgia.
Georgia
pushes
the pushcart from the kitchen to the dining table. Stops at each place, leaving
two apple cubes, one pear cube, a cheese sandwich and a peanut butter,
strawberry jelly sandwich, a handful of potato chips, half glass of milk and a
full glass of water at each place.
Bathroom
Marcie
is
still brushing her hair.

leaves
the room with a large white bath towel over his arm, offs the light.

walks
over to his bed and plops on back to rest.

walks
over to the tub and tests the temperature, then turns off the water, then
begins to unbutton his shirt.

Vincint & Jesabell
sit
motionless before the near bright crystal.

arrives
at top of the steps, turns to the bathroom door and knocks, calling,
"Chip, oh Chip! You forgot your bath towel."

Adrian
leans
forward, then calls over to Dean from his chair, "He won't open the door,
he's in the tub. And I've got to pee!"
Dean
turns
back to the door, "He'll let me in, I've got the towel."

opens
the door, steps out in the hall still dressed and waves at Adrian. Dean and
Chip disappear behind the closed door.
Lounge
Adrian
jumps
up and trots over to the door. Tries the knob, then beats on the door.
"Chip you bastard. You're not in the tub, you're still dressed. You bastard
let me in, I've got to pee!"
Bathroom
Chip
laughs,
"Ha ha ha, go down stairs, go in your pants, go out the window, go
anywhere. Just go away. I'm in the tub, ha ha ha."
Adrian
hits
the door again, gives it a swift kick, "You bloody bastard." He turns
and trots down the stairs.
Bathroom

looks
at Chip, smiles and laughs quietly, then begins to unbutton his shirt.
Chip
pushes
him gently back, points to the door and loudly, "Thanks for the towel,
tell cook I'll be a little late for lunch. I want to finish this bath!"
Dean
"Okay,"
smiles and gives Chip a kiss on the lips, turns and leaves.
Chip
locks
the door behind him. Goes over to the tub, undresses and gets in the water,
quickly washes his body.

trots
off the steps, stops, looks back up at the 2nd floor, then darts down the hall
to Chip's room. Flips on the light, goes over to the bed, then unzips and pees.
Zips up, leaves and flips out the light, goes into his room and flops on the
bed to rest.

looks
around for Adrian. Looks up to the Attic, climbs the spiralwell and knocks on
the hatchdoor, "Say you two space freaks going to make lunch? Ten minutes
and counting, te he eh he he he" giggles.

down the spiralwell and trots down the two flights of steps to ground level and
quick turns left towards the bathroom.

playing loudens and quickens as Dean trots down the steps. Their free hands are

Georgia, nodding her head in time with the music and licks her lips
occasionally at her.

halfway around the table filling the places. Glances over at the piano players,
stands erect and slowly shakes her head.

looks at Pearl. Then quickly scoops the apples onto a plate and continues
serving.

out room light, heads down the hallway, then over to the bathroom, tries the
door, knocks again, and waits as Chip calls out.

erect, staring at each other, palms back full flush with their shoulders as in
the native-ready-to-bow position. Their fingers extended open and pointed
upwards. The crystal is at near full brightness.

out of tub, dries off, wraps towel around self, picks up clothes and exits.

bathroom as Chip exits without touching each other.

up from the piano bench and runs into the TV room and flops on the couch, one
arm dangling on the floor.

playing the Star Spangled Banner softly.

finishes
filling the plates and looks the table over then looks to Pearl.
Pearl
walks
around the table slowly. When she reaches the head again, she looks at Georgia
and nods approvingly.

looks
at Dean, then kisses him.
Dean

still, letting Marcie kiss him.

washes
his hands, dries them on his jeans, offs the light and leaves to walk down the
flights of stairs.

exits
the steps, goes down the hall and flips on his light. Walks to his dresser drawer
and extracts underwear, socks, tee shirt. From his closet he takes a shirt and
dress slacks then proceeds to dress.

their
hands move slowly inward as the crystal's glow diminishes.

pushes
the pushcart toward the kitchen, stops beside Marcie and Dean kissing and pours
some water on Marcie's head, laughs, "Break it up you two. This aign't no
tunnel of love."
Then
continues into the kitchen where she fills the three plates on the kitchen
table.
Marcie
quick
ups off Dean. Shakes her wet hair, "You, you, mean old..." and darts
back into the bathroom. Slams the door, ons the light, towels her hair, then
brushes and brushes.
Dean
rolls
up to stand, shakes the water free and laughs to Georgia, "Ha, ha ha ha
ha, this aign't no tunnel of love, that's for sure cookie dear." Then he
saunters to the piano.
Standing
on the right of Blaire, he asks, "Say Blaire, do you know that song?"
Blaire
looks
up at him while playing, "What are you talking about?"
Dean
"You
know, that fab smash from the sixties that all young love raves on."
Blaire
"Oh

at her wrist watch, nods, turns and pushes a button on the wall above the
dinette. A buzzer goes off in each room for 30 seconds.

to the table and takes his seat.
Dean
walks
toward the dining room table, takes his seat, places his napkin on his lap,
then sits still.
Blaire
stops
playing, puts the lid down over the keyboard, slowly gets up, pushes the bench
under, turns and takes her place at the table.

Brittanie
turns
TV off, stands, sees Nancy on the couch, slaps her on the butt twice as she
walks past, laughs into the dining room and her place. "Ha ha ha ah ha ah
ha ha ha ha."
Nancy
lifts
her head fast and turns in mild protest, "Hay, what's the big idea
you...!" Then rolls off the couch and
slowly ambles into the dining room, rubbing her rear.

switches
hands to brush hair.

jumps
up from his bed, runs out the door offing the light, down the hallway and
double jumps the steps and slides to the dining table. Hurries to sit, quietly
catches his breath, then looks around.

Adrian bounds from the steps to the floor Marcie is opening the door and
flipping out the light, she walks briskly behind him and nails the back of his
neck as she passes past.

the sound of the buzzer he flips the room light off. Downs the hallway and
gallantly takes the steps to the ground level.

he
soldierly march-walks to his seat. Carefully pulling back his chair, he sits
upon it and then jump pulls the chair to the table bumping it, wobbling the
glasses. Scoots back some, clears his throat,
"Hmphm,
excuse me. The door stuck, is everyone alright?" looking slowly from
person to person.
Nancy & Blaire
jump
forward with the bumped table, reaching for their wobbly glasses and secure
them.

The
globe's glow brightens as each takes their sit at the table.

Two
minutes pass, everyone sits in quiet stare at each other, occasional smiles and
winks.

at her wrist watch, looks at the table and makes a general comment, "This
is the fifth meal those two have missed. Has anyone seen them?"

his hand, "When was the last time anyone saw them? I heard music from
their room ten minutes ago."

out, "Weird, they're just weird."
Pearl
"Thanks
you Dean. I think I'll check their buzzer." She rings a tiny silver bell,
"Dinner is served." Puts the bell on the cabinet and leaves for the
kitchen where she joins Georgia for lunch at the kitchen table.

eating and drinking.

motionless, their hands back from the globe. The crystal is very bright.

silently walks up the stairs. Down the hallway to her room where she flops on her
bed.

up ten seconds after Blaire and goes up the stairs glancing over her shoulder
at the table, goes down the hall and knocks on Blaire's door and walks in,
closes the door behind her and pushes a chair in front of it. Then goes and
gets on top of Blaire in bed.
Eric
as
Nancy steps on the stairs, he gets up from the table and asks Chip, "Say
Chip, I'm having some trouble rewinding that film, you got some
time?"
Chip, nervous guilt
coughs,
"Ah, a film, what film? You're having trouble with the film, the
projector? I've my physics class at two. I do suppose I can spare you a few
minutes."
Eric
"Thanks.
It's really been quite frustrating."

get
up from the table and walk up the steps to the 2nd floor, down the hallway to H
room. Eric flips on the light. Chip begins turning the reel as Eric straightens
the film on the floor.

"I'm
off to rehearsal. Bye, bye my loyal fans," and she dashes out by the TV
room side door.
Dean
turns
to Adrian & Marcie, "When was the last time anyone actually saw those
two?"
Adrian
"Seems
to me they were here for Sunday lunch."
Marcie
"Yes,
that's correct. Then they went right back into that dark hole of theirs."

like they were starved, real ragged looking, too."

up from the table, pushing their chairs under the table and walk hand in hand
up the stairs. At the top of the stairs they kiss lightly, then turn and go to
their separate rooms.

on his light and enters his room just as Marcie enters her room. He goes to his
desk and sits down, flips on the desk lamp just as Marcie goes to the desk and sits
down and flips on the desk lamp.

to the TV room and picks up the tv guide and thumbs through it, reads one page,
then turns on the tv just as Adrian & Marcie turn on their desk lamps. He
then lies back on the floor to watch.
Kitchen
Pearl
"That's
just what I'll do, soup and some sandwitches."
Georgia
"Babies
are cute, but that crying, so loud. Might be a quiet baby, might be."
Pearl
"And
while I'm up there, I'll check that buzzer. You push the button for me."
Georgia
gets
up from the table. And fills a plate of sandwiches and fruit pieces. Then fills
two glasses of milk placing everything on a serving tray and leaves the
kitchen. Stops in the doorway, turns back to Georgia,
"Well
go on get up. When I'm on the stairs you push the buzzer."
Georgia
"Alright,
let's do it. I've got to begin supper soon. I've little time to do your work
too." She gets up and walks to the cabinet button in the dining room. And
stands staring at the stairs with her finger on the button.

turns
to the stairs and mounts them carefully carrying the tray.

actually believe poking pins in a doll will cause your enemy pain?"

"The

that's how Vincint explained it to me. And for believers who are open to those
ideas, it can work."

fright changing to anger peaks through her fingers at them, "Take it down.
How dare you boys scare me like that!"

"Mame,
we didn't scare you. We were fixing the projector."

right Pearl, we were in my room fixing the film projector when we heard you
scream."
Pearl, anger calming

hands, "Oh I don't care. Just take it down. You boys and your practical
jokes."

dumbie, hanging, hanging on under the spiralwell."

turns
around, looks at the stairwell.
Chip
walks
to the stairwell and looks all around, finding nothing says, "Mame.
There's no dumbie here, just some cob webs."
Pearl, strong doubt
"Are
you sure? You'd better not be teasing me Chip." She slowly drops her hands
from her face. Then slowly walks over to the stairwell. Stops, stares, then
slowly raises her gaze up the stairs to the attic hatchdoor. Becomes ridged as
she points at it with her right arm extended.

Marcie
Asks, "Dean. Dean, What's going on?" looks at Georgia
and smiles.

five seconds and then laughs, "Tee he he ha."

up the stairs and pounds on the hatchdoor. Waits five seconds then pounds
again.
He
pounds again, "I guess they're not there or asleep."
Pearl
"They're
hiding from my wrath, hiding from my anger. They have to come out to eat sooner
or later." She turns, walks to the fallen tray and picks up the sandwiches
and glasses. "Eric. Be a dear boy and wipe up this mess before it stains.
And be sure to rinse it."
Eric
"Sure
mame." He goes into the bathroom, flips on the light grabs some clean
towels from the closet and goes back to wipe up the spill. Throws a towel to
Chip, "Come on, help. I've a class to get to."
Pearl
walks
down the stairs carrying the tray.
Chip
catches
the towel and helps wipe up the mess.
Eric & Chip
they
rinse the towels, then wipe the floor clean. Then into the bathroom to rinse
the towels clean, draping them over the tub's edge. They leave offing the
light.
Eric
walks
toward the hall and his room.
Chip
walks
down the stairs to the dining table.

the serving tray on the sink cabinet. She reaches to a top shelf, pulls down a
bottle and pours a small glass of sherry.

the sherry bottle and grabs a glass and takes it to Pearl, "If you
needin', then I'll be needin' too. Pass that bottle right over here
honey."
Pearl
hands
her the bottle and sits down at the kitchen table. Sips five quick short sips
and sets half a glass to the table. "Those two imps in the attic room,
they pulled a Halloween prank on me."
Georgia
"What?!
Halloween. It's only September. Halloween is long from now."
Pearl
"Like
to scarred me out of my wits! Five years of my life I'll bet." She takes
another sip.
Georgia
"You
mean that girl up in the attic what's going to have the baby?"
Pearl
"What
baby? They can't have a baby in this house. No siree, no babies. Halloween
pranks in September, it just won't do. They'll have to leave."
Georgia
"That
baby has to have somewhere to stay. You can't kick them out for some joke.
Probably was for one of their friends. Wasn't about you."
Pearl, looks up, rubs chin in

"Well
that's probably right. Eric and Chip were in Eric's room fixing a
projector." She takes another drink.
Georgia
"See.
The joke was probably for them and you came along and got it by accident."
Pearl, reflective and calm
"Well,
I rarely go up there, and today was a surprize visit. A lunch surprize for
Vincint and Jesabell. I guess you're right. Me seeing that hanged man was an
accident."
Georgia
gulps,
"Hanged man?!"
Pearl
"Yea.
A dumbie hanging, hanging behind the stairwell." Shaking her head quickly,
groans, "Ahhhhhrr."
Georgia
takes
her glass and slowly drinks it empty. Puts it on the table and fills it again.
"Hanged man, you said a hanged man. Give me that bottle, I don't like no
hanged man."
And
looks over both shoulders, right, then left.
Pearl, with quick expressive hands
"I
saw it, screamed, then I heard Eric and Chip's voices when I looked again, it
was gone."
Georgia
takes
a long drink on her glass, emptying it. Puts it down and refills it. Then
refills Pearl's.
Pearl
"Those
boys tried to get Vincint and Jesabell to open their door but they just stayed
quiet hiding is what I thought. I'm going to put a stop to these pranks before
they get out of hand. Halloween is a long way off."

"Maybe
so, maybe not." and finishes her drink.

had their fingers in cookie's jar."

up from her bed, flips out the light, runs down the hall, the stairs, and
slides across the slick hardwood floor in her woolly socks. And takes her place
at the table, panting for breath, "I was in my room. On my bed. In my
room. Really. My room. The buzzer. I was ah, asleep."

frantic at all the faces, "I had to get dressed. I'm late. I didn't mean
to be. I was in my room, asleep. I was."
She
pops a smiling Blaire on the leg, "Oh don't you laugh at me! Nobody laughs
at me. Got it!"

"Ohh.
I wasn't laughing. You're so funny sometime."

"Yea
a natural comedian."

"Well
nobody laughs at me. Got it!"
Blaire
"We
weren't laughing at you, but with you sweets, we all want to laugh with

and I found Pearl at the spiralwell all freaked. Had her hands covering her eyes."

what were you two doing?"
Chip

it fish mouth. I was helping Eric roll the film onto the spool."

up!" Slams her fist to the table.

heard this scream. We ran down to the stairway and found Pearl froze. I asked
her if she was okay. She dropped her hands, yelled at us to take it away."

what away. This is great. So old Pearl finally flipped. Ha!"
Adrian
"Yea,
maybe we can get a new one."
Blaire
"Yes.
Someone flexible. This eat by the numbers or starve is not in my copy of Emily
Post."
Marcie, stern face
"Shut
up!!" Slams her fist to the table again.
Chip
"She
said," he hesitates and then looks slowly all around the room, cautious
and suspicious. She said She said she saw a man hanging from the spiralwell.
Weird."
Nancy
"So
what's so spooky about some dude hanging around the stairwell. Probably was
Vincint in costume."
Chip
"Not
'hanging around'. Hanging, like a noose, like dead, a hung man, the gallows,
the rope." He pulls his tie up with both hands and sticks out his tongue
and tilts his head to the right.
Blaire
"EEEEEEEEEEE!"
And ducks under the table.
Nancy, shaking her head at Blaire,
looks to Chip
"Pearl said that. A hanged men behind
the stairwell?"
Chip
"We
looked everywhere. There wasn't a sign of anything anywhere."
Marcie
"What
did you two do? Did you scare her? You pranked her, didn't you!"
Chip
"Flake
off. She thinks Vincint and Jesabell did. Had me knock on their door, but they
wouldn't answer. Quiet as a graveyard."
Dean
"That's
why she stormed into the kitchen."
Chip
"Yea,
she was steaming. We had to clean up the tray she spilled."
Blaire
"A
hanging man. A disappearing hanged man. Cool, too cool. That Vincint and
Jesabell are too cool. I knew they were up to something."

says they're doing voodoo dolls, drugs is my guess."

then turns and jumps onto his open arms, wrapping her legs around his waist and
begins kissing him and thrusting her hips upon his.

glass." Then puts it to her mouth and downs it. She eyes it again,
"Nope, it's empty. There's another somewhere." She reaches up into
the cabinet, pushes cans and bottles around and then extracts a bottle. Turns
and hands it to Pearl.

the bottle, "Thanks, one more ought to calm this fright from me."

door and puts it in. Then puts the one on the burner in beside it. She closes
the door, turns the temperature gauge to 375. Looks at the clock on the wall.

off the couch onto the floor and suddenly sits up, looks around, rubs his eyes,
then looks at the fire place, then half crawls to it, reaches forward, then
spin sits up stands up with a loud, "Hayyyyyyyyy!!"

runs from the TV room into the Kitchen.

is
sitting and sipping, glazed eyes view the tv.

walking back to the work cabinet to clean up the pie making mess.

come on! There's another one. In the fireplace, a body. A man. A poker in his

begins to handwind the film onto the reel.

books. I've got to be ready for the test tomorrow."
She
starts pulling her clothes back on and throwing Adrian's clothes at him on the
bed, "Come on get dressed. Get back to your own room before Miss Pearl
does one of those dropins."

"I'm
tired, I need a nap."

"Tired!?
Tired from just laying in bed, don't be silly."
Adrian
"Look,
I'm beat. Just a few minutes sleep."

up you lazy bum. One quickee and you're tired. A man your age ought to be good

goes into the bathroom, goes to the stool, lifts the seats, unzips and pulls
his penis out with his right hand, pees, puts it back, zips up, flushes the
toilet. Washes his hands in the basin, dries on back of jeans, leaves the
bathroom offing the light.
Then
walks down the stairs and turns to go in the kitchen.

and half bows, "Thanks mame for your concern. I assure you all we are
quite well. The diet and the course of study we follow is very demanding and
often conflicts with the affairs of normal student functions."
He
sits down, gesturing to Jesabell.

and stands, nods curtly to Pearl, "Yes mame, what Vincint has relayed, are
the facts. We have a few provisions stored so not to disturb the house during
the heart of the night."
She
nods again, turns and sits, takes her glass and sips.

stops
her cart aside the table's end and begins to clear the dishes.

to address a more serious matter. There have been two serious pranks, Halloween
pranks played on this very day, frightening me. Frightening Dean. Now I've no
idea who and I've no way to find out. So nothing more will be said of this
matter if these Halloween pranks stop. Stop this very minute. Do I make myself

drink, swallows, "gone the next," holding his open hand in the air he
turns it and twists it to show it's empty palm.

know, I know what you mean. The same thing with the fireplace. I couldn't
believe my eyes. A body was in there. I couldn't believe my eyes."

out of his trousers and they pull close to each other, kiss, then pull apart,

her jeans down and pees, dries, pulls her jeans up and washes her hands, goes
to the tub, pushes the curtain back, turns on the water and goes up to her room
to get a towel and robe.

is a pretty hot silent flick you got."
Eric
"Yea,
I just got it today, whooee."
Brittanie
"Say
where do you find this thing."
Eric
"Oh
there's this guy at the video lab on campus I know. He gets them through the
lab somehow."
Naked
men with hardons are drinking at a bar, walking around and talking to women.
The women are all dressed. The reel falls to the floor. Eric offs the projector
while Brittanie ons the light. He picks up the reel and stands looking at the
projector, she looks at him.
Brittanie
"That's
one hot flick, I'm all steamy. How 'bout you?" She shakes her shoulders,
purses her lips and rubs quickly across her loins.
Eric
stutters,
"Ahh, well, yea, sort of." He pushes down at his crotch.
Brittanie
walks
behind him and presses her body against his backside. Then wraps her arms
around his waist and grabs his crotch, "Yea you're hot enough. And I'm wet
enough." She begins to kiss the back of his neck.
He
crumbles slowly to the floor where she slowly begins pulling his clothes off.

rolling wildly on the bed. Occasional loud, "Ohs and Ahs and Owhs!"

The crystal is very bright.

me gentleman, nature calls." And she gets up from the table and goes into
the bathroom. She opens the door, stops, calls, Excuse me gentleman, nature
calls "Blaire is that you in the tub?"
She
walks over to the tub and pulls back the curtain. Looks down and screams,
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE", turns and runs out the door.
Right
into Blaire carrying her towel and robe. They both fall to the floor.

jump
up from the table at the scream.

sit up.
Dean
"Are
you girls alright?"

breathless,
"In the bathroom!" She points to the open door, In the
bathroom!" "In the tub."

hands covering eyes, "Uh huh, drown.
Dead."

no! Not in my bath water. I just turned it on."

calming,
looks at Blaire, "I had to go. I heard the water running. You didn't
answer. I was going to turn it off but a man was there. Brown hair, brown
hair." Puts her hands over her eyes again and drops her head.

slowly
enter the bathroom and slowly push back the curtain. Then fully push it back.
Chip
faces
the door, "Nothing here. Disappeared again." I had to go. I heard the
water running. You didn't answer. I was going to turn it off but a man was
there. Brown hair, brown hair."
Nancy & Blaire
get
slowly up to their feet helping one another. Then walk into the bathroom.
Blaire looks into the tub. Nancy is hiding her eyes standing behind Blaire.

"Nothing
but water."

peeks
around her and looks at the tub. Then walks to the tub and stares down at the
water then reaches her hand into the water and swishes the water.
"I
saw it, I did."
Dean
"We
did too."
Chip
"Back
to the kitchen."
Blaire
"No,
someone just pulled this prank. You were all in the kitchen, right."
"They've got to be hiding. Let's all search the house and see what and
where everyone else is. This is not a funny prank." Everyone nods yes.

quickly into the dining area.

burst
into a dark Adrian's room, on the light and take a quick look around. Dean
spots under the bed, while Chip takes a peek in the closet.

into a lite Marcie's room. Stop and turn quickly back out.
They all meet back at the stairs.

one."
Nancy
"We
found them."
Chip
"What
did they say?"
Blaire
"They
were naked on the bed."

the perfect alibi."

At the top of the stairs they stop.

burst
into Eric's room to find him naked on the floor. Brittanie fully clothed
kissing his belly.
They
turn and leave quietly closing the door. They return to the stairway giggling
and punching each other's arms.

burst
into a dark Brittanie's room. Nancy finds no one under the bed, while Blaire
finds no one in the closet. They off the light and return to the stairway.

were they doing?" and she starts to walk that way.

his head around the door and calls loudly, "Dean!" and returns to his

and falls directly onto the poker and flops dead into the fireplace.

a few quick raps and returns to her seat.

knocks her head on the back of the tub and drowns.

on a loose shoe string, falls forward, her right hand nicks a large skillet off
the edge of the table and it hits her on the temple, killing her.

foot catches the lip of a step on the second story landing and he falls
forward, snapping his neck on the step, breaking it and killing him.

the buzzer and a long wire pulled from the wall and is reaching over the
railing and slips and twists back around to grab at the railing and the wire
gets tangled around her neck and she falls over the stairs and strangles to
death.
